Farm and Fishing Fairs

Throughout the year, the towns of Markina-Xemein, Lekeitio, Ondarroa and Berriatua share the scene for the principal fairs.

Markina-Xemein holds several fairs, but the most outstanding ones take place in February and October.

The first fair specialises in nursery plants and trees, as well as farm implements and machinery.

During the October fair, Urriko Azoka, livestock, cheese and farm product contests and exhibitions are held. It is one of the most "classical" fairs on the Basque Country's fair calendar.

Lekeitio holds two annual fairs.

Anchovy Dawn
In May, the coastal town of Ondarroa also holds the Antxoa Eguna Anchovy Dawn. In addition to the traditional exhibition and sale of tinned tuna, gastronomic contests are held and large tuna tapas or pintxos are tasted.

Cider and Meat day (Ondarroa)
In August, also in Ondarroa, the Sagardo eta Okela Eguna (Apple Cider and Meat Day) takes place, a farm food fair with local meat and cider tasting events.
